18 November 2006 Friday Afternoon At The US Air Terminal of Philadelphia Airport Offers a Preview of What Air Travelers Can Expect When Traveling This Thanksgiving Holiday
My readers will be delighted that I will now be able to give a first hand account of flying on the day before Thanksgiving. My schedule has changed and I will now be traveling from Philadelphia to Tampa late Wednesday afternoon.
Last Friday I traveled the same route on the same airline and I used the same rental car agency which is Hertz. I found the lines to return the car long and waited nearly 10 minutes to check the car in once I was in their rental car return lot. Then I boarded their shuttle for the airport. Elapsed time from point of entering Hertz rental car return lot to arriving at the security check point was about 30 minutes.
Air Travelers leaving Philadelphia using the terminal where US Air has most of their flights note: There are three lines:
1. First Class and Preferred - (lucky devils)
2. and 3. - all others.
My experience suggests the line to the right moves faster. It took almost 30 minutes to complete the security process. There simply is not enough room for all the people trying to go through security. There are only a few people who I want to be that close to. None of them were in line that day.
As for US Air - I normally do not travel that airline. It has good schedules for me into and departing the Philadelphia market. Coach class is a nightmare. I think the executives of US Air should fly in their planes for flight longer than 2 hours until they get the point - it is just too damn tight. Competitors can beat US Air all day and all night just by offering another 2-3 inches of leg room in coach. Southwest has opened the Philiadelphia market and I am looking forward to them adding more flights. I will take Southwest all day and all night every day over US Air and United and United Ted whatever the hell Ted means.
Wishing you a Safe, Prosperous, Healthy and Happy Thanksgiving
