Air Tran Misleads Air Travelers. Many Missed Flights. How To Avoid These Problems

1 September 2006

Air Travelers flying Air Tran from Tampa to Atlanta August 31 scheduled to depart at 7PM were delayed due to air traffic conjestion in Atlanta. One passenger connecting to a flight to Akron was told be an airline representative not to worry since there was a flight out at 11PM. Only problem was the last flight out was 9:15 PM and the plane from Tampa did not depart until after 8PM making the 9:15 connection impossible. A long very slow moving line in Atlanta confirmed many passengers were affected by this delay.

Summary Air Travel Recommendations:

1. Book direct when at all possible
2. Do not book the last flight out and check your connecting flight to make sure it is not the last flight out.
3. If there are unusual delays with your departing flight and you are scheduled to leave on a connecting flight before ending up at your intended destination, consider not leaving. It is better to be at home than stranded in a connecting city waiting for the airline to book you a hotel and arrange to fly you out the next day.
4. If stranded look to other airlines and even renting a car as alternatives.
5. Once things have settled down, file for reimbusement of your costs with cusotmer service representatives at the airlines. There is no guarantee you will be refunded any money. If you pursue this calmly you are likely to receive credits or free tickets.
